Maui Dreams And After Thoughts
Fell in love with the island of Maui 40 years ago! It’s a magical island filled with ancient traditions and superstitions. First night so many years ago stands out because of a charming jewelry vendor. Ran into him in Lahaina Town after dinner at Longhi’s on Front Street. He was carrying a beautiful necklace made out of rough blue coral beads. Convinced me that his beads had healing powers! Paid cash, wore the necklace, slept well that first night!
Dreamed of returning to the island but didn’t make it until 1999. Perhaps the Hawaiian god Maui called me back to the beautiful Valley Isle. After all, he is considered to be the Hawaiian Superman! This time I returned to the island as a Professor. I trained local teachers so that they could keep their teaching licenses and hopefully make more money. At that time Maui teachers had the lowest pay in the United States living in the state with the highest cost of living! Classes were packed! Teachers brought roasting pans full of food for everyone to enjoy. The aloha spirit is full and rich!
